Trump, Johnson to meet with top AI leaders at the White House

The White House Accord on “Super Intelligence” signed by leading AI executives Tuesday centers on self-regulatory controls and greater transparency, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told reporters following the meeting.

“The basic idea is that we want to give the American people and our customers confidence that the technology works in the way that we intend,” Zuckerberg said outside the White House.

“We drafted a set of principles and commitments around building robust internal controls and detecting if there are any issues with the technology, coupled with multiple layers of auditing and controls — starting with internal risk review, external auditors, and evaluators — and agreeing that we’re going to have all of our boards of directors independently review the reports that come from the auditors,” he explained.

Zuckerberg emphasized that the agreement represents an evolving framework for the sector.

“The idea isn’t that this is the only thing that we will ever do,” Zuckerberg added. “It is that this is a start and an accord that the whole industry could come to.”

President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., rebuffed concerns that the rapid expansion of data centers across the country could harm Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections.

Asked about the potential political backlash at the ballot box given his support for data center development, Trump emphasized the local economic benefits.

“I just have to do what’s right. All I can tell you is that these big, powerful, very rich, very smart companies are going to be making massive contributions to communities,” Trump told reporters.

Johnson added that GOP candidates are actively addressing the issue in their home districts.

“They’re saying we cannot lose the race to China, we cannot lose America’s edge because it’s important for every American worker, every American family, for their safety, security, the future, the economy,” Johnson said. “But it has to be a balance. You have to take the community concerns in hand.”

The Speaker stressed that local pushback must be addressed.

“That’s what the president articulated in the room today, that you have to heed those concerns and you have to make commitments to them, just as they’re making as an industry,” Johnson said. “They will make it to the local communities.”

Pointing to the newly signed White House Accord on Superintelligence, Johnson framed the agreement as a major step toward industry self-governance.

“This is a statement of principles that you’ll see — a statement of standards, commitments that are voluntary on behalf of the industry,” Johnson said. “It sets forth expectations. It’s, in short summary, robust internal controls and layers of internal and external review.”

The world should not be concerned about artificial intelligence because “we have people that love our country and love the world,” President Donald Trump said of top tech executives following a White House meeting.

Speaking to reporters after the roundtable, Trump — who has opposed imposing formal guardrails on the technology — said participants signed a document at the conclusion of the gathering.

“They love our country and they love the world and they came together and they did something… it’s almost like a constitution in a way,” Trump said. “It really is a form of protection.”

Trump added that the document — the White House Accord on Superintelligence — is “morally binding” for the executives who signed it.

“They almost viewed it as a separate kind of a constitution,” Trump said of the tech leaders. “When they signed that, it meant a lot.”

Addressing concerns over potential misuse, Trump said bad actors who leverage AI for nefarious purposes will be caught, pointing to the Department of Justice, the FBI, and other law enforcement agencies as safeguards.

He noted that AI firms need to “self-police” as a primary form of regulation.

“I believe they’re going to be used for the good, and when they’re not, we’re going to be able to nab them,” Trump said.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei raised concerns about artificial intelligence safety during a White House roundtable with President Donald Trump, according to another chief executive who attended.

Exiger CEO Brandon Daniels told Fox News that he was seated next to Amodei, who brought up unspecified warnings during the meeting.

Amodei sits on “one side of the spectrum from others in the room,” Daniels said, but noted the Anthropic chief still acknowledged that the U.S. “must win” the global AI race.

“I think everyone around the table recognized that we all have a role to play in making sure that AI is as safe and as controlled and managed, while still being incredibly innovative,” Daniels said.

Anthropic is experiencing rapid growth alongside massive financial losses ahead of a potential public debut, according to leaked financial documents obtained by media outlets.

The AI company is expected to pursue an initial public offering by November that could value the Claude AI developer at more than $2 trillion, Investor’s Business Daily reported, citing a Reuters report.

Reuters reported on the company’s confidential IPO prospectus on Monday.

The filing shows Anthropic’s revenue surged to nearly $4.6 billion in 2025, even as the firm recorded an operating loss of more than $8 billion, according to Reuters.

Overall, the AI company posted a net loss of $42 billion in 2025 and plans to spend over $500 billion on cloud computing infrastructure over the next several years. 

Leading AI firms will work closely with local communities amid growing pushback over the construction of massive data centers nationwide, President Donald Trump said Tuesday.

“This is a group that loves local communities,” Trump told reporters following a White House meeting with top tech executives. “They love our country. And they’re going to work with local communities for the data centers in particular.”

“They’re going to work to make the community happy. That might be supplying oil and gas,” Trump added. “It might be supplying education, it may be helping teachers along financially, helping people along financially.”

Data centers have become a growing sticking point across the country, with some residents voicing strong opposition over privacy and environmental concerns.

Trump warned that tech companies could be forced overseas if they face roadblocks building infrastructure domestically.

“But even in America, there are so many people that want data centers,” Trump said. “You know, the areas with data centers have become very rich. People have become very rich. Their taxes have gone down, not up, and a lot of good things have happened.”

OpenAI on Tuesday announced several new ChatGPT features designed for office workers.

One feature launched by the AI firm is Space, a shared workspace inside ChatGPT where coworkers can collaborate with the chatbot and with their own Dots — newly-launched OpenAI agent personas, TechCrunch reported.

“Your pages and files all live together in Space, like they would in a drive,” CEO Sam Altman said during Tuesday’s presentation. “But spaces feel alive.”

Users can give a page specific instructions, such as checking a team channel and updating things with what it finds, according to Altman.

The company also announced Pages, a word processor described as “a new type of document, built for human and agent collaboration.”

The platform will allow users to “write, research, generate charts, create images, or visualize information,” OpenAI said.

House Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday called for greater oversight and transparency of the artificial intelligence industry, saying that those steps could be taken voluntarily by leading AI firms.

“There’s corporate responsibility here. Of course these folks have to provide safe products,” Johnson told CNBC. “But I think a little oversight, a little transparency, a little external auditing of what’s going on would calm the nerves of a lot of people.”

Johnson noted that the United States needed to strike the “right balance” between keeping technology safe and remaining competitive, Politico reported.

“I have resisted the siren song to jump in and do these blanket moratoriums and all of this, you know, hyperregulation, because we cannot lose our edge to China,” Johnson said. “I think we’ve got to make sure we do this well. We need to keep America ahead in this, you know, transformational technology, but also do it in a safe way.”

Johnson’s remarks came before he and President Donald Trump were slated to meet with top AI executives at the White House. 

AI assistants are moving deeper into the browsers we use every day. They can summarize a webpage, explain what you are looking at and, in some cases, take action on websites for you.

That convenience also gives these tools access that a normal webpage would never have. Now, security researcher Gal Weizman of Forever Security has shown how a malicious browser extension could potentially turn those powerful AI capabilities against you.

His research, called BragJack, targeted Gemini Live in Chrome, Perplexity Comet, Microsoft Edge Actions, Opera Neon and Anthropic’s Claude in Chrome. The findings resulted in more than $20,000 in bug bounties and two CVEs.

There is one important detail before you panic. The attack still required the malicious extension to be installed first. After that, Weizman demonstrated attacks that needed zero additional clicks from the victim. So how could one extension get that far inside the browser? It comes down to how these AI assistants are built.

Weizman describes these AI systems as having a “brain” and a “body.” The AI model works out what should happen. A privileged component inside the browser then carries out the request. Depending on the product, that privileged component might read webpage content, capture a screenshot or interact with a website.

That setup becomes risky if something else inside the browser can manipulate the connection between those pieces. The proof-of-concept attacks relied heavily on Chromium’s declarativeNetRequest, or DNR, system. Browser extensions can use DNR to modify how network requests work. That can include changing response headers or redirecting resources. Forever Security showed how those capabilities could let an extension interfere with web content trusted by a browser’s AI features.

President Donald Trump touted his administration’s unveiling of America.gov on Tuesday, a website aimed at providing Americans with a one-stop shop for federal services.

AirBnB co-founder Joe Gebbia unveiled the AI-powered website during an event at the White House, saying it combines information from 29,000 federal government sites all in one place.

He added that the Trump administration plans to allow Americans to use the site for formal interactions with the federal government beginning in 2027 for things like changing names, addresses and other common use-cases.

“It’s the ultimate product. It’s called, America, when you think about it,” Trump said at Tuesday’s event. “With America.gov, the federal government no longer stands in your way it stands only at your service.”

“We’re simplifying it. We’re glamorizing it. We’re making it what it should be,” he continued.

President Donald Trump’s administration unveiled America.gov on Tuesday, an AI-powered website aimed at becoming a “one-stop shop” to help Americans navigate federal resources.

Author and Entrepreneur Tony Robbins helped to unveil the new website during an event in Washington, D.C., saying the website is immediately available for use by Americans.

Fox News host Emily Compagno responded to Bill Gates’ warnings about artificial intelligence catastrophic risks on “The Five.”

Compagno criticized Gates’ track record of catastrophic predictions and argued that major tech companies must prioritize immediate child exploitation risks on their platforms rather than hypothetical AI threats.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates warned that artificial intelligence (AI) could cause “a billion deaths” if left unchecked in the latest push to regulate AI on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday.

During his interview, Gates, who previously warned that AI could be the “greatest equalizer” or “worst source of injustice” without some level of human regulation, stopped short of answering whether the technology could “end all of humanity” but argued that it could drive events that would lead to significant deaths.

“AI is certainly powerful enough to drive events that, you know, cause a billion deaths,” Gates said. “You know, so even though it’s pretty hard to get to 100%, there’s never been a weapon as powerful as the combination of people with ill intent using the latest AI tools.”

Gates is among several tech giants who have put forth warnings about AI, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Despite this, President Donald Trump has rejected calls to ease back on AI development in an effort to compete with other global powers like China.

Gates disagreed, saying there “absolutely” needed to be more focus on regulation and legislation passed by Congress rather than concerns about global competition.
