For people like Jeff Bezos, AI isn’t the future—it’s the present.
Despite many concerns about the technology, Bezos has been a strong advocate. He’s also been a very big supporter of President Donald Trump, particularly in the last few years. So, it’s perhaps no surprise to see Bezos agree with Trump’s new name for the technology.
Trump has said his preferred term for Artificial Intelligence is “Super Intelligence” or “SI.” When asked by Fox News host Bret Baier in October about the term, Bezos seemed to like it.
“I do like SI because artificial is not a very flattering thing,” Bezos explained. “Nobody wants an artificial sweetener or artificial flavoring. Artificial sort of means fake.”
AI is by definition, artificial. But to each their own.
Changing how people refer to something once a name has caught on is hard. Bezos understands that, even calling it “a long road.” People still call X Twitter, after all, despite the name of the social media platform being changed years ago.
The Amazon and Blue Origin founder also spoke about how the technology could help people work less. “Some people will also decide, you know what, I can support my family by working three days a week,” Bezos said. And to the notion that AI will make jobs disappear and cause large-scale job losses, Bezos also had an answer.
“I just happen to disagree with those smart people,” Bezos added.
Of course, Bezos is very high on the technology, as he just co-founded Prometheus, an AI company that is developing an “artificial general engineer,” which is set to accelerate the process of turning ideas into products.
Bezos’ latest comments comes after Page Six claimed that Bezos has been humiliated by the Trump family. The former Amazon CEO was not accepted into the super exclusive Indian Creek Country Club in Miami, but Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, and her husband, Jared Kushner, recently made it in.
It took the couple two years, and the outlet says Bezos could face a similar wait. “No one is going to make it easy because he is Jeff Bezos,” a source disclosed. “You have to go to mixers. You don’t just move there and think you can get in. For anyone.”
Still, Bezos likely will be accepted; he just has to wait. “There aren’t that many golf clubs [in Miami], and there is huge demand. It’s very hard to get into any of them, but Indian Creek is the hardest.”
And his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, seems to have big plans for the two, plans that could make it more likely they are approved. Or less likely, depending. She’s reportedly pushing Bezos to run for President. According to Hollywood insider Rob Shuter, “Lauren loves the idea of President Bezos,” adding, “She talks about legacy, influence and what Jeff could do that money alone cannot buy. And yes, she can absolutely see herself as First Lady.”
